With the publication of this piece, The Tent of Abraham initiates a series we are calling The Dumbing Down of America. We envision the series will include both serious and humorous insights into how Donald Trump and his minions are contributing to the dissolution of civility, morality, and the rule of law in a country once envisioned at the most democratic, the most culturally and scientifically advanced nation on Earth.

During his third State of the Union address on Tuesday, President Trump presented the country’s highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, to the longtime conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh, who recently announced he has late-stage lung cancer. Past recipients of the award include Elie Wiesel, Rosa Parks and Mother Teresa. Mr. Trump told Mr. Limbaugh he was being recognized for “the millions of people a day that you speak to and that you inspire.” Millions more have perhaps never listened to his popular radio program. For those who haven’t, here is a selection of his comments on various issues:
On whether the massacre of Native Americans is comparable to the World War II Holocaust:

On feminism:

On Hu Jintao, the former president of China, speaking without a translator:

On Sandra Fluke, who as a Georgetown University law student in 2012 testified in support of the Obama administration’s birth control policies:

On the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People:

On athletes in the National Football League:

On sexual consent:

On the idea of white guilt:
