Standing only feet from Alabama’s GOP governor, Southern Poverty Law Center founder Morris Dees lambasted him, the state legislature and the chief justice on a range of social justice issues during a speech commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Selma-to-Montgomery March conclusion. Speaking to a crowd of thousands from the steps of the Alabama Capitol, Morris denounced lawmakers for enacting new voter restrictions, for pushing policies that lead to school re-segregation, and for their failure to extend Medicaid to low-income people in need.
