Even as a young child growing up in NYC in the 1950’s & 60’s I understood that my mother and grandmother who had survived Nazi Germany sorely missed the countless friends and relatives they lost in the Shoah. It was not unusual for them to grab me on my sister on a Sunday afternoon and take us to JFK (then called Idlewild) Airport in the hopes they we might see some emotional reunion between loved ones separated by time and war. They knew that they would be denied such reunions themselves, but hoped that seeing others reunited might bring them some comfort. Watching this amazing video made by Google reminded me the kind of reunions so many survivors of major historical events long for regardless of the passage of time.
