We’ll never know if 4-year-old Jadon Hgganbothan would have turned out to be straight or gay, not that it should matter. Peter Lucas Moses killed the 4-year-old child because he suspected him of being gay. What evidence did he have that Jadon was gay? He slapped another little boy on the tush.
Homophobia wasn’t Moses’ only problem. The 27-year-old believed himself to be the rightful leader of a sect of “Black Hebrews” who had descended from one of the ancient 12 Tribes of Israel. Moses and his group claimed to be preparing themselves for a “race war” that would leave people of African descent in control of the world.
Back in reality: the homophobic, charismatic, domineering Moses was living with a group of women all of whom were pledged to him exclusively. All of Moses’ female companions were required to refer to him as “the lord.”

One of the latest additions to Moses’ harem-cult was 28-year-old Antoinetta Yvonne McKoy, the mother of Jadon. All the other children living in the group-home had until that point been personally fathered by Moses. McKoy was separated from Jadon’s Dad. This super-Dad with the pathological ego problems wasn’t too happy about Jadon being around and had repeatedly encouraged Antoinetta to get rid of her son. She didn’t and Jadon’s slapping another child on the behind gave the lunatic an excuse to cleanse his extended family of the unwelcome juvenile.
Moses led Jadon out to the garage where he played a recording of the Lords Prayer in Hebrew and shot the 4-year-old in the head.
Jadon’s hysterical mother had to be subdued by the other ladies when she ran from the house to call the police from a neighbor’s home. Back in the house and under control, Moses made sure McKoy would never again pose a problem to his happy home, he killed her too.
The local District Attorney in Durham, NC where the mother and son had been murdered intended to seek the death penalty for Moses. The murderer, who was more likely the product of profound dysfunctional development than actually being a descendant of anyone noteworthy, saved everyone the trouble and expense, he pleaded guilty today to both murders. It is expected that he will now be sentenced to two consecutive life sentences with no chance of parole.
A horrific story, but after reading the whole thing, I think your headline is misleading and a bit sensationalist.
I readily acknowledge that the headline is sensational but that does not mean it is misleading or incorrect. The fact remains that Moses believed that being gay is so wrong that it justifies killing someone; the fact that he didn’t want Jadon in his home to begin with, notwithstanding. Consider it the other way, how may LGBT people and other minorities throughout history have been subjected to cruel and inhuman punishment for reasons other than outright prejudice? Isn’t the ridiculous “birther” controversy really about the color of President Obama’s skin and his “Muslim sounding name?” How many conservative Republicans who argue against government social service programs would think differently if they thought the majority of the recipients of those services were white military vets; or elderly white conservative Christians?
Jadon was shot because Moses thought he was gay.
Um, the title actually IS misleading. Moses shot him because he thought he was gay. That didn’t mean the child WAS gay. I think the use of the phrase “for BEING gay” is probably what the other commenter was referring to. Jadon would only BE gay if Jadon had actually identified that way. One guy assuming something about a child doesn’t make it so.
Jadon was shot because a narcissistic psychopath didn’t sire him. The rest is fluff.
Hello. I live in Durham, North Carolina and have been following this story very closely, not only because of the close proximity, but also because I am going through a divorce from a man who began to associate with the Black Hebrews. It is absolutely a cult and I am thankful to have been smart and strong enough to leave at the first sight of the early warning signs. There are a few inaccuracies in your post:
Antoinette McKoy, was not Jadon’s mother. Vania Sisk, a 28 year old Colorado woman, was. Jadon was killed in October 2010 by Moses. McKoy found out that she could not bear Moses any children and was scared for her life, so in December 2010, she attempted to escape. She ran to a neighbor’s house and begged to use a phone, but was ignored (they thought that she was mentally ill), and was subsequently dragged back into the house by Moses and his other ‘wives’ (including Jadon’s mother, Vania), beaten unconscious and then shot twice in the head.
I just wanted to provide clarity about some of the details, as this is a story that needs to be shared. I am in the process of divorcing a man who began to associate with Black Hebrews and their beliefs. I’ve read comments about how people simply cannot comprehend how anyone would get involved, or sucked into a cult. And had it not almost happened to me, I too, would be none the wiser. This group and everything that they teach ans stand for is nothing more than hate masked by religion, and generally exploits an inferiority complex that exists in many minorities…not just people of African descent.
