One of the great ironies of America’s “culture war” are the groups who claim the moral high-ground while actually  undermining our nation’s ethical standards and obligations to its own citizens.   For example, conservative groups are more apt to discuss gay marriage than the fact that most American workers have fewer benefits and lower salaries (on a proportionate basis) than ever before.  Republicans believe it’s a moral obligation to spend “money we don’t have” on national security but not  on education and health care.  Social conservatives opposed to abortion or health care benefits that include birth control are silent if not indifferent to the ever decreasing viability of the American social safety net that is supposed to provides basic human services to the living people in need.
